Waiting on Wednesday: Steampunk! Edited by Gavin J Grant and Kelly Link

September 14, 2011

“Waiting on Wednesday” is a weekly event hosed by Breaking the Spine blog, where various bloggers get to showcase the novels they are eagerly anticipating! I’ve been a bit rubbish at doing this the last few weeks but here’s my entry for this week:

Steampunk! An Anthology of Fantastically Rich and Strange Stories edited by Gavin J Grant and Kelly Link

Publisher: Walker

Release Date: 6th October 2011

Genre: YA Steampunk

Format: Paperback

In the first major YA steampunk anthology, fourteen top storytellers push the genre’s mix of sci-fi, fantasy, history, and adventure in fascinating new directions.

Imagine an alternate universe where romance and technology reign. Where tinkerers and dreamers craft and re-craft a world of automatons, clockworks, calculating machines, and other marvels that never were. Here, fourteen masters of speculative fiction, including two graphic storytellers, embrace the steampunk genre’s established themes and refashion them in surprising ways and settings as diverse as Appalachia, Ancient Rome, future Australia, and alternate California. The result is an anthology that defies its genre even as it defines it.

Contributing authors include: Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, Garth Nix, and Cory Doctorow, and many more!

I’ve become really excited by this one as I’ve been desperate for some more steampunk to read after loving the Corsets and Clockwork anthology, plus I’m a big fan of Holly Black and this anthology has some other authors that have been on my radar for some time now. I can’t wait to read it,  but sadly I’ll have to wait til the 6th October for this one 😦
